In April of 2009, a group of military spouses got together in the hopes of making a difference in the lives of military families. They knew the issues surrounding military families and saw a need for a platform where military family members could join forces with the general public and their communities to address the challenges of military life.
Since then, BSF has grown from a few military spouses around a kitchen table to more than 150,000 members and over 35 communities and chapters around the globe. Our programs and services reach more than 1.5 million military families every year.
Books on Bases offers free books to families, base schools, and libraries, promoting literacy for military communities of all ages. Blue Star Museums, through a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, offers military families free access to museums across the country from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Blue Star Theatres, in partnership with Theatre Communications Group and theaters across the country, honors military families and provides them with free and/or reduced admission, special opportunities, and programs. Caregivers Empowering Caregivers is a program developed to specifically target and empower military family members who are caring for their veteran or service member. Through workshops, coaching, and digital resources, Blue Star Families strives to ease the challenges. Blue Star Careers, our military spouse employment and education program, provides a broad range of military spouse employment and education initiatives designed to support military family members throughout their entire career path.
