Deep Sea Valkyries
Deep Sea Valkyries is a Veteran operated, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Phoenix, AZ. Our mission is to enhance the lives of Veterans through the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other combat related traumas and injuries while introducing them to healthy outdoor activities.
Deep Sea Valkyries facilitates week long intensive counseling and retreat programs to Veterans of all eras from across the United States. Participants travel from their homes to Nassau, Bahamas where they will board a customized live-aboard vessel and set sail for a week at sea in the Exuma Land and Sea Park. During their week at sea, participants conduct up to 25 hours of group and individual counseling sessions with a licensed trauma counselor.
These sessions are designed to allow the Veteran to first understand trauma from both a historical context as well as at the diagnostic level, then to understand how that trauma impacts themselves, how it permeates into the lives of those around them, and effective methods to treat, manage, and heal from those experiences. We couple these sessions with daily devotionals and life resiliency sessions led by a military chaplain and board member that discuss the idea of “Moral Injury” and how the consequences of serving in a war zone can impact how the individual perceives their life and the value that it holds.
Lastly, we round out each day with activities ranging from SCUBA diving and snorkeling, deep sea fishing, to exploring remote islands. This unique combination of treatments offers a holistic approach to healing for the mind, body, and soul.
